For the construction of its nuclear power plant, ENEC chose an advanced third-generation light water reactor, known as the APR1400 (Advanced Power Reactor), which has significant safety improvements compared with older reactors.
The UAE’s first nuclear power plant is to be the fifth unit of the APR1400 plants in the world; and the Korean Sin-Kori plants (two APR1400 units), which are currently under construction, will serve as the “reference plants” for the UAE - reactors.

The KEPCO-led consortium includes Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Samsung, Doosan Heavy Industries and Westinghouse, as well as KEPCO subsidiaries: Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. Ltd. (KHNP). The KHNP will play a key role as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor and as operator; Korea Power Engineering Co. Inc. (KOPEC) will provide the nuclear power plant design and engineering services; Korea Nuclear Fuel (KNF) will provide the fuel; and Korea Plant Service and Engineering Co. Ltd. (KPS) will provide plant maintenance as needed.
